Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship 2027

The Matsumae International Foundation

A fully funded six-month research fellowship in Japan for non-Japanese PhD holders who already have acceptance from a Japanese host institution and want to conduct research between June 2027 and March 2028.

Deadline

Jun 30, 2026

Theme

Six-month research fellowship in Japan for PhD researchers

Why it matters

It is a strong route for researchers in the network who can connect with a Japanese university or national research institution. The fit is especially clear for natural sciences, engineering, medicine, agriculture, AI, applied modeling, computational research and other technically rigorous projects that would benefit from a Japan-based research stay.

Who should look at it

Non-Japanese researchers with a PhD, age 45 or younger at the time of application, full-time occupation in their home country, sufficient English or Japanese, no previous long-term stay in Japan, and prior acceptance from a host institution in Japan.
