AI governance and policy fellowship in LondonWhy it matters
It is highly relevant for the network because AI governance is becoming a core public-policy and institutional capacity issue. It can fit researchers, policy people, technical profiles, civic-tech builders, public-sector professionals and social-impact operators who want to work at the intersection of advanced AI, regulation, institutions and public decision-making.
Who should look at it
Early-career candidates, experienced researchers, policy professionals, operators, communications people, programme managers, public-interest technologists and adjacent-field professionals with strong judgement, writing, analytical ability and a serious interest in AI governance.
Application details
The UK Winter Fellowship has a Research Track for fellows conducting a research project of their choice, and an Applied Track for fellows working on non-traditional research projects in areas such as policy, communications, operations, issue advocacy, programme management, research management or fundraising.
Fellows join GovAI in person at its London office from 18 January to 9 April 2027.
Applications close at 23:59 BST on Sunday 12 July 2026.
The official pages state that fellows receive a salary of GBP 12,000 plus support for travelling to London. GovAI provides weekday lunches and a desk in the London office.
GovAI says it is able to sponsor 3-month temporary work visas. Applicants who require a visa may need to remain in their country of visa application while the visa process is underway.
The process includes a written application, a short automated abstract-reasoning assessment for selected candidates, a paid remote work test in August, and a remote interview plus reference checks in September. Final decisions are expected in October.
GovAI highlights quality of work, relevant expertise, judgement, intellectual honesty, openness to feedback, comfort expressing uncertainty and serious interest in contributing to AI governance.
